Clinical Supervision

Clinical supervision is essential for ensuring that counsellors both beginners and the more experienced, are providing the highest quality of care to their clients. It is also a requirement for many professional organisations and regulatory bodies such as BACP or UKCP.

Clinical supervision has three overarching purposes:

  • to enhance your professional development
  • to ensure your work with clients is ethical and effective
  • to promote your overall well-being.

What Happens in Our Supervision Sessions?

The supervision session is a tool to help you reflect on your work and get support with including any challenges or difficult cases. It is a process in which you receive guidance and support from me, as your experienced and qualified professional supervisor.

During a supervision session, you put forward the work you are doing with clients and can ask for feedback, guidance, and support as appropriate. As your supervisor I may also give opportunities to enhance your skills, knowledge, and awareness through training, role-play, or other activities.

How Supervision Works

When conducting supervision, the time allotted for each session is generally one and a half hours per month and the overall supervision experience should be a positive one. This is why it is extremely important to use all supervision time effectively.  Supervision is the opportunity to focus on the positive aspects of supervision, the supervisee, and the safety of clients.

With trainees, this is invaluable because it helps supervisees gain self-esteem as a counsellor and prevents them from focusing on the negative aspects of their counselling work. The final goal of supervision is to produce independent and reflective practitioners, who are capable of self-supervision.

Sessions: 1.5 hours per month via Zoom, telephone or in person at my practice room – 8 Sutton Road, Admaston, Telford.
