What is holistic psychotherapy?
Holistic psychotherapy goes beyond simply addressing symptoms of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, or trauma. It considers the interconnectedness of all aspects of a person — including their emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual health. The approach is rooted in the idea that healing is not just about fixing a problem but fostering balance and harmony within the whole person. Other modalities that I may incorporate in sessions:
What are the benefits of holistic psychotherapy?
Whole-Person Healing
Traditional psychotherapy typically focuses on mental and emotional aspects, but holistic psychotherapy takes a broader view, addressing how physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health are all interconnected. By treating the person as a whole, holistic therapy aims to address the root causes of these imbalances.
Personalised Care
Everyone’s journey is unique, and one-size-fits-all solutions don’t work for everyone. Holistic psychotherapy embraces this individuality and offers treatment that considers the whole person’s experience.
Enhancing Self-Awareness and Mindfulness
One of the cornerstones of holistic psychotherapy is increasing self-awareness. Through mindfulness practices, meditation, and other techniques, you learn to become more in tune with your thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations. This can lead to a greater understanding of the factors influencing your behaviour, thoughts, and decisions, empowering you to make conscious, positive changes in their lives.
Stress Reduction and Emotional Regulation
Many people come to psychotherapy to learn how to manage stress or improve their emotional regulation. Holistic techniques such as deep breathing, mindfulness, and meditation help to calm the nervous system, alleviate tension, and promote relaxation, reducing overall stress levels and fostering emotional balance.
Support for Personal Growth and Spiritual Development
Holistic psychotherapy often includes exploration of spirituality and personal values. This can help you connect with a deeper sense of purpose, inner peace, and fulfilment.
How does holistic psychotherapy work?
During holistic psychotherapy sessions, I may use a variety of tools and techniques, depending on your individual needs. For instance, talk therapy is often used to explore emotions and thoughts, while energy work or meditation techniques might be incorporated to help relax and release energy blockages.
The therapeutic process involves regular discussions around personal goals, values, and beliefs, as well as guided exercises and practices designed to facilitate healing, finding peace and harmony in all aspects of life.
What can I expect from our initial informal session?
Our initial consultation will be an opportunity for me to get to know you and get a better sense of your goals. We will discuss what is presently going on in your life and I may ask some questions about your personal history or family of origin to gain a fuller understanding. This is also an opportunity for you to get to know me, ask questions and evaluate whether you feel I am the right fit for you.
How many sessions do I need?
Therapy is a process that is unique to everyone, and we all grow, heal and change at different rates. During your initial consultation we will discuss your goals and what you hope to get out of therapy. As we continue to work together, I will assess to see if your needs have changed and whether you feel that your goals are being met.
What results can I expect to see?
